The Muffin House
My little brother (now not so little at six-foot-three) does not like gingerbread, which I think is ridiculous. BUT he does like the concept of a gingerbread house. Last year, he demanded I make it out of chocolate-chip cookie. It didn’t work. Chocolate-chip cookie is too brittle, due to the chocolate chips, and the pieces kept crumbling. After the left wall collapsed more than once, I performed an emergency repair using icing as glue and half a hershey bar for support. I then put a matchbox car in the garden, so it looked like a drunk driver ran off the road. The roof stayed up, and the house tasted great, but it was hours more work than usual.
So I said, this year, no go. He pitched a fit, as only baby brothers can. I offered a giant cupcake house as an alternative (with those jumbo moulds, easy peasy!) and he counteroffered. Muffin. Hey, sounded good to me. Except, because he knew it would be less work than usual, he asked for a three-flavour combo. White-chocolate-raspberry, apple-cinammon, and chocolate-chocolate chip.
This meant that the base couldn’t be cooked as one piece…two layer base needed. Anyway, it took a while, but the ultimate result was INCREDIBLE!
I didn’t even get a chance to take a photo before everyone hoed in, and can I just say: yum! The Muffin House was a success, three glorious layers of deliciousness! I think it will have to be repeated next year.
